Interesting that they've gone with an I2C D2A for the analog stick. They normally just turn it into a digital input with a comparator on their stuff. Wonder what the driver is doing...

I really wish this existed with a d-pad instead of a joystick, since pi zeroes can't really emulate anything that would need a joystick.

In joy-bonnet.sh it's just converting the analogue input to a digital one above a threshold. I don't know why they keep overcomplicating their stuff like that when a simple digital mini 4 way switch would do exactly the same thing...

I like the joy bonnet... So much i decided to make a docking screen setup for it that gives it a sense of retro arcade machine... see a preview here :
