DS Lite Battery

Post by Holydohnut » Tue Sep 26, 2017 3:42 am

Hey all. After winning a few job lots of broken DS lites to harvest the buttons/pcb's, I find myself drowning in DS Lite Batteries! Though they're only 1000mah, they'd be perfect for the tiny builds I'm currently playing around with. Does anyone know if they have any battery protection built in? Don't fancy trying to crack one open and accidentally puncturing the damn thing!

I'm using charge boards with built in protection anyway, but it'd be nice to know.

Since you are using protected charging circuitry, adding a protection board to the batteries is useless.
As for the DS batteries, i don’t know if they were built in protection or if they were protected by the charging circuitry on the motherboard.

They have a plastic ring round them, and a little PCB. I'm not sure if there is protection, it was a while ago that I ripped one apart.

They are tin case batteries so you don't have to worry about damage really, although the battery casing is one of the terminals so go steady!
Get a small cheep LCD in your project https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2312
Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919

Cheers guys. I'll just solder them up. What's the worse that can happen?
