Wii U build, needing help with certain features

Post by jimathy666 » Thu Mar 09, 2017 3:59 pm

I havent shut up about this, so sorry

I am planning a Wii U Gamepad with a few different features, I just need help with ideas and verifying and stuff as this is all very new to me

I am essentially, like many others, using Banjo's as a basis for planning this

My shopping list so far is...

The Power and Video side:
Micro USB Charger board with protection:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1PCS-5V ... 0.0.T7Af2h

Adafruit Powerboost 1000C:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PowerBoost-10 ... SwmtJXUCCn
This will handle the battery input and power the screen, pi and speaker circuits.

6.5inch HDMI Internal Display:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251878770018? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Pi Zero W:
You know what this looks like.
I'm going with this so I'm not required to strip down a Pi3 to ensure it fits. With new Wireless functions it's perfect.

Now here's my adding something that might not even work from the get go: HDMI
I'm going to be adding a HDMI switch to control whether output goes to internal screen, or external.

HDMI Switch that I will remove from case:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDMI-Splitter ... Sw14xWMBDz

HDMI to HDMI Audio Splitter
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HDMI-to-HDMI- ... SwAuNW6oEf
This is being added to allow one of the HDMI outputs to be set up for the Internal Screen and Internal Speakers.

I'll be using FPC HDMI Cables for space saving reasons:
I think I'll need 2 of these ones (Splitter to Audio Splitter, then Audio Splitter to Internal Screen):
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-15cm-HDMI ... Sw65FXusQp

Make my own Mini HDMI to HDMI cable and HDMI MALE to FEMALE:
Mini HDMI Male:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20pin-Mini-HD ... SP2AEE9mlA

FPC HDMI Cable:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FPC-Ribbon-Ca ... Swal5YKtbk

Standard HDMI Male + Female:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20pin-Standar ... earJ1NkbRg

Here I get lost, the Audio setup:
This is me being a newbie mainly, I can barely grasp how Banjo's works. The more I try to work it out the more confused I get lol. He's got his setup so when you plug in the headphones, the internal speakers turn off and vice versa. From what I can tell, he had his connected via a USB DAC card, that was getting the sound and sending it to speakers and such.

Edit: While typing this, I think I worked the basic concept out, correct me if I'm wrong: His Pi has a Audio Card wired in > Potentiometer to control Volume > Headphone Jack > this carries sound through to the Amplifier > which sends the sound to Speakers. Basically by connecting the headphones, it cuts the circuit to the speakers and in essence turns them off?

If so can I use this, instead of his recommended amplifier(they stock them close to where I live) will it make a difference: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/adaf ... AvHE8P8HAQ

Can I use the HDMI to HDMI + AUDIO to bypass this and use the HDMI audio instead.
So in my head, its a case of when the HDMI Switch is set to 'Position 1' the Audio and Video is sent to the internals and when in 'Position 2' it sets it to all go to the externals?
If that would work, I really need help with the wiring of that.

Amplifier to make use of the internal speakers:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181988847863? ... EBIDX%3AIT

Potentiometer:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10pcs-Volume- ... Sw~oFXMCg4

The Control setup:
In all fairness I'll essentially be copying Banjo's, but with a few changes.

This is a main point for me, I'm wanting to wire up TV control button to the HDMI switch AND if possible, to the Internal screens off button. The picture shows it coming with a extra board that handles certain commands, looking at others, I'm sure one of them is On/Off.
If it is at all possible, wire up HDMI Switch + LCD off button, all to the TV control. Thus swapping the connections from internal to external and saving power at the same time (possibly helping charge while playing)

Teensy 2.0:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Teensy-2-0-US ... SwTuJYuafG

2x 10pin FPC FFC for the DPAD, Trigger, and ABXY buttons:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-lo ... 87249.html

8pin FPC FFC Adapter for the Home boards charging port(some things are controlled via this):
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-lo ... 4936.html?

I was hoping for a 18pin FPC FFC board, but cannot find one anywhere..so it looks like I'll be soldering directly to that flex or connector.

The analog sticks will be wired the same way directly into the teensy.

And I think that's it.

This might seem like the start of a build log, and i'll probably copy and paste this into the actual build log, but this is a genuine please help. I've never done anything like this before and I don't want to go in completely blind, only going from other peoples conversations.
