[POLL] Screws

Does this bug you enough for the bezels to be re-printed?

Huh? Who cares? Send me my parts already!

[POLL] Screws

Post by wermy » Fri Jun 23, 2017 5:33 pm

Hey guys,
2 of the 3 sizes of screws I ordered got here today finally (wooo!). Hopefully the 3rd isn't too far behind so I can start shipping pre-orders out.
They look great, and even have some loctite-like goop applied to them, which should make them hold even better. The only issue I have is the 4mm ones, which are the ones that you use to attach the screen bezel to the back plate, have a wider head than I was expecting (wider than the ones I tested with and wider than the 8mm screws from the same distributor I ordered from... Pretty annoying since the only measurements they gave were length, along with pictures. They didn't indicate the different lengths had different head sizes.). They still work, but they don't fit down into the recessed part, meaning they don't sit flush. Here's what I mean:

On the left is what I was expecting (and is about what the 8mm screw from the same company is like). On the right is what I got. They still work fine, they just don't recess into the screw holes like I had planned.

I'm willing to tweak and re-print the bezels if this bugs people enough. Those are pretty fast and easy to print. If it doesn't bug people, then great. If it's too annoying, I'll get started. It might push back shipping by a few days though (not much - like I say I can print those pretty fast).

Vote!

Is it possible to change an order of a 3D Printed part to a 2.2" screen? Since I bought one and the gamepad as well.
But then again, what am i going to do with the extra 2.4" screen? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm going against the grain and saying yes, it does bug me. While I would love to get started on my MintyPi, I would rather wait a couple days longer to have something perfect instead of cutting corners just so I can start sooner. Just my opinion.
I've just finished my milk.

I couldn't care less as long as all of the screws match. If one screw was recessed and the other not (like pictured) it would drive me nuts.

I actually like the wider flat screw head more. To me, it looks more fluid because it's flat and the screen bezel is flat. My eye notices the round head more because everything else is flat if that makes any sense.

Edit: zoomed in and the receased screw head and it's flat. Still don't mind.

No worries, that's why I'm asking. :) If it bugs enough people I'll do it. But if it's only a few, I'll likely send them as-is. But don't forget, if it really really bothers you you are able to purchase small quantities of screws for a few dollars on amazon. So even if the "doesn't bug me, send it" people win, you can get different screws cheaply and easily.

Is there enough material to file the hole so the screw head will sit flush?

Maybe, if you were very very careful... But I doubt you could get it as clean as a re-print with larger/wider chamfers.

I don't mind about the screws...But if enough people want re prints I don't mind waiting for those. Is it possible to just order some more screws, you have any local shops that will sell screws similar to that? Or is getting the from China/Ebay the only option?

China's the only way I could find them for anything approaching a reasonable price. So yeah, at this point it's faster and cheaper to just re-print (no way am I dealing with trying to return and pay shipping for that return to a random aliexpress seller in china).
