Hmm, i've never used ecther before. Maybe re download the image again and try. Make sure the SD card is formatted to FAT (you can format in windows or use something like this: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/ ). I always use Win32DiskImager to burn images too, you could try that one.

it turns on but does not boot

You need to have a stable SD card formatted with wermy's image.

If Etcher is saying the image is corrupted you probably just need to re-download it. I use etcher to burn images like this all the time. Also it doesn't matter what format your SD card is in prior to burning the image to it - it'll all get erased anyway. :)

thanks oh and another question should I solder the USB sound card power and ground to the Vcc on the battery monitor or bat+ and ba -

Makes no difference really, you can even use the power pads on the Pi itself.
