Do we need the sound card to run the Pi?

I dont really care for sound and its just an extra hastle to put it in. so, will the Pi work without the sound card??

The Pi will work. You will have to configure RetroPie to use no sound card as the pre-made RetroPie image will setup the sound which will fail in this case.
