Using external controller via usb

Hi guys! First time forum member and happy to be here!

I'm about to start my GBZ and i just had a quick question.

I wanted to see if it was possible to use the GBZ as a console.
I'm sure its possible to hook it up to a tv via the HDMI.
But if I plug in a usb controller would it work?

May be a pretty dumb question but I'm pretty new to all this electronic stuff, so go easy on me haha
