One more new GBZ [WIP]
One more new GBZ [WIP]
Hello everyone, I already made one GBZ with a Pi3, but the trouble with the batery (powerboost1000c => not enought power... ) made me crazy because it's only playable when is charging... what a handled console!
So I decide to build 2 GBZ (one for my brother) with the new Pi0w, but I'm not sure to understand the "trick" with the sound on the Pi0.
What I've understood reading few topic is that:
1- Turning on audio output via GPIO on the pi0w
2- Wire the GPIO through a low-pass filter like these one :http://store.kitsch-bent.com/product/easy_pwm_audio
3- then wire the pwm to an amp like these one : https://www.adafruit.com/product/2130
4- and finish the wiring with the headphone jack and the speaker.
Or it's maybe completly wrong...?

Re: One more new GBZ
Yeah, that's about right, I just followed Wermy's original guide and the steps he used for PWM audio. Using the same amp, with a speaker, volume wheel, and original gameboy headphone jack. I built a low pass filter in my first build, and did not use one in my third build. I did not really notice a difference with or without one.

Yeah, I didn't use an AIO board for my 1st and 3rd builds. Wermy's original guide does not use an AIO board. So the audio part will be relevant for what you are doing.

Re: One more new GBZ
I haven't used the kitch bent filter before, but the home made one I used made no noticeable difference to me. It's up to you if you want to buy it and try it out. Or you can build your own, following this guide:

Re: One more new GBZ
If you are going to use the kitch bent filter, here is a diagram for mono audio that i just made up.
**I edited the diagram a bit, so it is more clear. this is how you would wire mono sound**
If you aren't using the filter your purple wire from the GIPO will go directly to the volume wheel. then everything else will be the same.
This is what I have done in the past and it works out alright.

Re: One more new GBZ
For the pi 3 GBZ use a powerboost basic, not the C model.
Make sure to use the terminal connector not the JST.
the powerboost 1000b puts out 2+ amps vs the 1000c's 1amp.
Personally i have it set up so that the terminal out goes to a jst connector which goes to my battery. That way I can take the battery out to charge with an extra 1000c that I have when it needs charging.

OK but the powerboost 1000b can charge also the batery? Is it oK for this one? https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pow ... c/overview
