This was pretty fun. I am totally a fan of these Pocket Adventures "assist" boards. This was basically a full build using those. Since I was an early purchaser, I was surprised with a free Power Assist prototype (and button bracket, which I'm using in a different build), and I do like it. It's a power strip, boost, recharge, and safe shutdown, and although it does have an easy connection for the battery monitor, that didn't seem to work on my model (it would not power up at all when that was wired to an ads)... but, that turned out not to matter much anyway, since I tried four different ads-1015s and I couldn't get any of them to register in the i2c, so in the end, I pulled that out, and I figure I might try to use an arduino nano at some point, but that's a whole
new thing, so... but that's another great aspect of these boards - when you have to re-connect, and de/solder over an over, the nicely labelled and laid-out pads make it so much easier.
I printed all the parts with 3d plastic (ran out of my sampler amount literally at the end of the last part - i had like 2 inches left), including the front X and Y buttons and the rear shoulder buttons. The A and B as well as the D pad and start/select are Kistch Bent single-piece silicon, but honestly, I sort of hate playing with them. those take too much pressure to register a lot of the time, and it's just not comfortable at all. The d-pad is OK. If they were a few mm taller, they might be amazing. I like the soft touch a lot.

at first, i altered my shoulder button stl design to snap in real game boy buttons, which worked great, but ultimately, i liked the all-glow look better.

i also used the audio jack, which fits snugly in the original's spot on the back of the battery compartment, which I could leave mostly in tact since I used Helder's battery

i took out more of the case on the top, where the power supply is, than I would have liked, but originally I was using a BW screen variant that had a larger board, but it was terrible and very flickery, no matter what I did, and it just stopped, so I pulled everything out and stuck a Gearbest in there, but the ribbon cable's a little iffy on it, and I have to tape it in place, or else it tends to go all-white

the speaker was a small 8ohm, 1w that sounds kind of amazing. i printed a little round bracket to hold it in place, but it gets loud, and sounds pretty clear.
