I'm not sure if this is a new variant or not... but here's my controller board... btw- it was horribly packed in to the casing.. this screen cable never had a chance... as a reminder, always test before mounting!

See attached at the state of the cable when I opened it up.
This is a BW screen purchased on amazon.com

https://youtu.be/_Zuhop1hWsw <- figured why not.. test it anyway
Hello, I just received the same screen, did you figure out how to convert to 5v? please let me know, Thanks.

Hey to everyone in this topic :)
Yesterday I've damaged my gearbest screen and now looking for new one. I found @Royalhighness' thread about the screen which is identical to gearbest version - https://www.aliexpress.com/item/-/32715407296.html. I also found there one feedback, that this screen can be powered with 3v3. Even my damaged screen has this pin, but obviously I can't test it now.
Is there anyone who has gearbest screen and brave enough to test, how does it work with pi and 3v3?
Thank you in advance guys!

So I'm just beginning my build and I bought this screen on ebay. Listing said it was 640x480, but I doubted it because of the price. After taking it apart, it looks like it might be used or refurbished.
Here is the ebay link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331729506573 The sellers name is vovotrade
There's a sticker on the back that said Innolux display, I looked them up and they don't make a 3.5" 640x480 display. I just got it today and haven't had time to play with it. I thought I would post some pictures because this circuit board looks different than the others on the wiki.

Did anyone ever find a fix for this screen? I got the same one off Amazon. Not sure what to do. if no one has fooled with it yet maybe someone could help guide me on what I should be looking for. I would love to be able to figure it out but I just dont even know where to begin other than hooking it up to the pi and seeing what happens haha.

I too received this board from Amazon.

I went ahead and soldered it up but am getting the following picture, if I can get any at all. Even if the picture is showing up, it flickers.

Not sure how to proceed with using a multimeter to test the board and remove a chip or find out what to jump :? Doesn't help this was my first time soldering a project so I also wonder if I screwed anything up there.

If anyone has any suggestions, guidance, or can point in in the direction to find out how to test it I'd be grateful.

Answered my own inquiry about this one back on page 52 of the thread.
Sometimes it just takes a little digging.

This screen is 5:3 compared to the 320x240's 4:3. It still has the same diagonal measurement but is wider and shorter than the current screens, which are perfect in terms of size compared to the shell. I'm sure there could be other uses for it, though.

800x480 is a 5:3 aspect ratio assuming square pixels.
