Post by king » Thu Jul 06, 2017 7:40 am

Hi all, I decided to start making the gameboy zero project. My screen doesn't seem to work and I don't know why. I am new to this and don't really know what i am doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks :)

See the guide below...Looks like you have your power wire soldered to a 3.3v pin on the pi. Do not use the square hole. use the one above it, it will provide 5v.

so i changed it up a bit and putting the wires in the right holes(from the guide). However my screen still doesnt light up or do anything.
could my screen be damaged? or did i not push the wires far enough into the pi holes?

In my first post I mentioned that you might not need the jumper wire installed for the 5V fix...Turns out I was wrong your board is the type that will need that jumper. If you solder that back on it should work. Sorry for the incorrect advise, I have since edited my original post.
gearbest screen you have that needs modShow

So I've put back the fix on the screen's board, pushed the cables into the holes further and still nothing from the screen(not even a backlight). I think I've put the wires into the right holes, but nothing. Are my wires too thin? or did i solder something incorrectly? or should i look into replacing the screen.

Here are some updated photos.

thanks :)

Edit: After trying all this, I plugged the pie into my TV and it works. I'm sure its not the pie's fault this is happening.

Did you try to run the screen off of 12 V first to see if it worked that way? Also, it's hard to tell from your pic but the jumper wire needs to be soldered here:

Well without the jumper wire yes, but you would also need a 12V power source, not a 5V source like the pi. The pi will only output 5V, you will need a power supply that outputs 12V to test without the fix.

But like I mentioned before, make sure your jumper is soldered to the proper leg on that chip, the one I have shown in the photo. If it still does not work after that, I am not sure!

Here is an image of my exact wiring on the same screen, make sure you are only soldered to the 3rd pin on that chip, make sure there is no bridge between any of the legs:

right now I am using electricity from my wall that goes into the pi. Normally i would use a 3.7 v battery from adafruit.

i will try to clean up the fix more. maybe the metal is going onto another leg and its interrupting the fix.

anyways thanks for the help.

If it doesnt work, i might jsut look for another screen
