i have the screen from gearbeast.
In my first post I mentioned that you might not need the jumper wire installed for the 5V fix...Turns out I was wrong your board is the type that will need that jumper. If you solder that back on it should work. Well without the jumper wire yes, but you would also need a 12V power source, not a 5V source like the pi. The pi will only output 5V, you will need a power supply that outputs 12V to test without the fix.
