Nope, just the tip to it, gonna see how I fare when I try to desolder the cart reader, I think I might have to scratch the surfaces a little because my DMG was so grimy when I got it and there was battery acid everywhere

This is exactly what flux is for. Adding new solder works because it will likely have a flux core.

I have great success with my trusty 30w, the tip is ground to a skew chisel point (almost like a flat screwdriver), so i can choose between using a wide flat side, a small corner or even the front edge. But what i discovered a while back is the importance of cleaning often on a wet sponge. No matter what your iron or tip is, once it oxydize it will not transfer heat properly.

Honestly, experience goes father than what solder blend you use in this application. 60/40 is fine. 63/37 works as well. I've used both, but only because it was closer to handincontrasttogray wrote:Has anyone had issues with 60/40? What sort of solder are you guys using?
