Helder was able to help me figure out some of the issues, turns out the SD card was bad and causing all sorts of problems. He was able guide through troubleshooting and the removal of a resistor that was causing an issue.

While the picture doesn't show it, there was kapton tape covering all connections. It was removed when I was testing the connections.

TLDR: I assembled my minty pi V3, testing at each step to make sure it worked as outlined in the wermy video. I put a little bit of E6000 around the edges of the buttons and the tin, so far I have not had any issues with them falling out.

I had this issue when I first put mine together, and found that I hadn't actually pulled the tin open far enough to actually lock. I found this out be shining a bright flash light into the latch area so I could watch the pin, I was able to see the channel and get it to slide into the locked position...
