Re: djbriane's Circuit Gem misadventures

Thanks! I decided to go with the 450 battery in the end since I felt like I didn't want to push my luck a second time. I agree about the case - the biggest problem is finding one with a lid/cap. I did find an STL for the lid but it's not the greatest quality: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:239194...

Re: Circuit Gem: No power to Pi or LCD

Just a quick update, I wound up removing the Pi from the Gem and replacing it with a new Pi and everything is working:

djbriane's Circuit Gem misadventures

So this turned out to be a doozy of a project for me. First, the final results: IMG_1114.jpeg Started out by stripping down the Raspberry Pi, hoping to fit a larger 850 mAh battery in and got everything soldered together: IMG_1037.jpeg Came to find out I made some kind of mistake when stripping down...

Re: Is better or more descriptive documentation forthcoming?

Also Wermy's latest MintyPi build guide has some good instructions on soldering the Pi to the board that can be applied to the Circuit Gem.

Re: Circuit Gem: No power to Pi or LCD

Doing some more testing - it looks like the resistance between PIN 6 (GND) and PIN 4/2 (VBATT) is zero.

Circuit Gem: No power to Pi or LCD

I'm having an issue where there is no power to the LCD and I get no activity from the Pi itself (and no power to it either). I believe I have got the Pi soldered to the Gem properly (tested all of the pads and I have connectivity with them all). Things I've checked so far: 1. Getting power to the bo...

Re: Circuit Gem - phantom key presses in RetroPi menus

I believe you can turn this off under the Emulation Station menu:

1. Open the menu, choose 'UI Settings'
2. Toggle 'Quick System Select' to 'OFF'

That should prevent it switching from within the games list for a system.

Re: Circuit Gem VMU

Nice work! I was thinking of doing this same thing with mine. I do worry about that much hot glue on the RPi though, seems like it'd get pretty melty as you are playing games. Also - any reason why you added the connectors in there? seems like if you direct wired them you'd save a bit of space / tro...

Re: Safe shutdown?

Pimoroni also makes something similar (doesn't include the circuit for battery level sensing though): https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/onoff-shim (I've been using their library to do safe shutdowns via the Power Boost) Here is an overview (with diagrams) on implementing battery level sensing using...

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but does it save the game before it shuts off? I’m a noob at this and was just wondering if I could lose some progress in games.
Nope - thats what the delay is for, so you can save the game (or save state) before the system shuts down.
