You could keep the RetroPie SD card in the pi itself but repurpose the cartridge bay and have it mapped to an available port on the USB hub. I don't think that is the spec for the 3.5". If you look it also says you screen is 3.5"/4.3"/5.0" all at the same time? Also 4:3/16:9 at the same time?

The 480x272 sounds like a 16:9 aspect ration screen, maybe the 5.0" model.
