Both the wires are connected. I'll gonna try desoldering one of the wires as soon as I get back from work. See if it makes any difference.

I did the 5v mod to the controllerboard as suggested. Then I hooked it up to the raspberry zero for a test drive. It starts, but have four white lines across the top of the screen. Have I messed up or is the screen broken? The screen is from Gearbest..
