3D-Printer Mounted Smoke Detector

IMAG0921.jpg It's finally done! The last parts arrived just over a week before the deadline  The result is an internet-enabled smoke detector module mounted on the side of my 3D printer. Now, in the event that the mainboard catches fire (not as unlikely on an Anet A8 as it should be), this s...

Re: 3D Printer-mounted Smoke Detector

Update: The rest of the parts FINALLY arrived a couple days ago, and with the deadline closing in, I'll have to finish everything up pretty quick. Wish me luck!

Re: 3D Printer-mounted Smoke Detector

Progress! :D IMAG0836.jpg The MQ-2 smoke sensor came in the mail a couple days ago, so I finally got started on the main part of the programming - getting the smoke detector to trigger an event. This, naturally, turned out to be far more complicated than it should have been. I'll try to break this d...

Re: 3D Printer-mounted Smoke Detector

For the text message part Twilio (http://www.twilio.com) is a nice solution. I've used it for other projects in the past. Very simple to send a message: https://www.twilio.com/docs/sms/quickstart/python Cool, thanks for the info. I'll have a look at that when I get home in a couple days. There shou...

3D Printer-mounted Smoke Detector

So, after spending weeks trying to come up with a useful project to make, I think I've finally got a good one. I have an Anet A8 3D printer, which is a cheap Prusa i3 clone from GearBest. I haven't had any major problems with it yet, but... from what I've read I'm pretty lucky in that regard. My pla...

I know this is gonna sound stupid, :? but i can't find anyone online that sells the right size of tactile switches for the L/R buttons. if it is the right size, then it only has 2 prongs. where did other people get theirs?
I found them on ebay, and wound up getting a pack of 10 for $1

Re: Additional part sourcing thread

I eventually found the exact Adafruit micro lipo on ebay, but it seems that it's not available anymore. However, the package arrived today and it seems to be in great condition! This also saved me $9 US in shipping costs.

Re: Additional part sourcing thread

I'm not sure how long ago this happened, or how long it will last, but the Adafruit Micro Lipo battery charger listed in the wiki parts list (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1904) is out of stock. Adafruit also sells what appears (to me) to be a smaller version of this same component (https://www....
