So my powerboost powers on ok with USB and battery but won't turn off with my safe shutdown and I can't figure out why. Any help would be appreciated

So I've bought an adafruit screen as shown in the guide but don't seem to be able to get an output. I have the retropie OS on a SD card in my raspberry pi zero (1.3V) and connected it to the power supply with no luck.
