Bought on ebay
Board found in the screen wiki (variant 7), but this one works at 5v without any modifications (even as low as 4,5v).
It looks like they have changed the voltage regulator to XL1509 datasheet: https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/d9f ... a2f9aa70b
You could still remove it to make it more power efficient (regulator is 82% at 5v), and feed it system 5v through pin 2 on the chip but imho this is not worth the effort.

One quick adition,

The screen is held by one little clamp, so removal is extremely easy!
No glue, no prying with screwdrivers, just remove one screw an it pops right out!
Damn, I wish I had known this. I just got two variant sevens and did the mod that runs the wire from the chip to the 5V pad. (method 1 i think).

Welp, the second one I won't mod. TY for the information!
You're welcome!
Maybe the first rule in the screen wiki should be to "try to run a screen on 5v"
And if that doesn't work, mod it.
(Maybe this already is the rule )

But hey if we could find everything in there, we wouldn't have this great forum :D

I'm not sure if this is a new variant or not... but here's my controller board... btw- it was horribly packed in to the casing.. this screen cable never had a chance... as a reminder, always test before mounting!

See attached at the state of the cable when I opened it up.
This is a BW screen purchased on amazon.com

Hello, I just received the same screen, did you figure out how to convert to 5v? please let me know, Thanks.

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute

I read a while ago that some were having trouble with BW screen variant 8.
If so, here was my solution

I modified using method one from the wiki and wired to the Pi exactly as wermy did in the original guide (where he used the adafruit screen) here - http://www.sudomod.com/game-boy-zero-guide-part-3/

I haven't booted any roms yet but it retropie boots to emulationstation perfectly.

Turned up a couple of days back. Nice quality and fits well into the case with a little trimming of the PCB. I also removed the touch screen.

Much better than the BW screen, default text is readable and no fuzzy/blurriness. Aspect ratio is obviously a little less ideal but I'll compensate with a thicker bezel at the bottom of the LCD cut out.
Here's an attempt at showing the picture quality...

Is it really a 1920*1080 3.5" screen =O ?

And hi everyone, i bought a new screen, because my other screen don't want to run and i don't know whyand the pcb is too big.

I received this one today ( the variant 7 ) but when i tried to make it run in 5V nothing happen ... Someone can give me some tips to help me run this screen through 5V ? Do i need to change the code to display on the component for the rpi 0 ?

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute

Just ordered the 3.5 BW screen, and got this variant:
Image

While trying to desolder the chip marked I accidentally also desoldered two SMB (the one directly to the left/right respectivly)
Since I lost the ones I desoldered, does anybody know the exact type needed to replace them?

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute

I ordered this one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/BW-3-5-Inch-Moni ... B0045IIZKU and got the variant 7 screen of the Screen Wiki page. I followed the second method that is posted there to make it 5V compatible and it worked.

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute

Are you sure of that ? Is that the same ? there is two variant very close, and mine have some componants (see right to the right button).

I think you have this screen: http://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php? ... &start=190

If not, could you post some picture of what you cut ?
