Re: Help for build an cheap & easy GBZ
That's very nice! I guess you have the proper tools as well? Yes, I had a lot of the parts already, I had to buy a new soldering Iron because the old one let the black smoke out, but I also buy a lot of things in bulk, like the wire I use came in big 20m spools for around $10, and because I also do...

Re: Help for build an cheap & easy GBZ
I have to be honest, easy and cheap don't go along together to build a GBZ. Pick only one. Often the cost of tools is forgotten to get the samller jobs done correctly. You should aim at a first GBZ build at around 500,-€. So GBZ sold here on the forums range from 250 to 400€. I got all the parts fo...

Re: Gameboy 'Athena' (Pi3) build log [WIP].
I have some good and bad news. Good news: I decided to paint the case a matte black on the inside, similar to the Galaxy 8, and it looks quite nice: https://i.imgur.com/XfcA59j.jpg It has masking tape on the front so I didn't paint over it. Bad news: Turns out I had left a tiny solder bridge between...

Re: shesaysidontlisten GBZ First Build Log [WIP]
How do I know that an amplifier will work? Any chance you could link me an example? I am planning the cut off like you said. Do you think the ferrite beads are worth doing? This is the one I used in another project, and it works fine. I honestly didn't notice any difference when using ferrite beads...

Re: shesaysidontlisten GBZ First Build Log [WIP]
Amplifiers are pretty cheap, they cost less than $2 on ebay. I recommend you get a 'switched' headphone jack, that automatically cuts audio to the speaker when headphones are plugged in. If you decide to use an off-the-shelf rheostat/pot as a volume knob you'll only need a single-gang one if you're ...

Re: Screen question
Composite is the way to go. I used those GPIO screens, and even when the drivers were installed they had a poor refresh rate, only barely playable.

Re: Help for build an cheap & easy GBZ
PS. If you want cheap parts, check out your local e-waste centre or just do some dumpster diving, loads of people throw away things that still have useful parts in them.
