Re: Better sound, better speaker
Sounds awesome. Would such a speaker have a greatly negative effect on battery life? I don't think so... it's still 8 ohm. Probably depends more on the volume: the amp needs to use more juice to amplify the signal. The sensitivity of the speaker matters somewhat. This one is 81dB which isn't amazin...

Keeping as many stock connectors as possible—cutting PCB
I'm trying to keep as many original connectors as possible (power switch, power socket, volume knob, cartridge connector), but without resorting to hot glue to keep them in place (no offense wermy)! The stock control board already has all the connectors, and in the perfect placements! So, I decided ...

Yeah, it kind of subtracts form the do-it-yourself spirit of the project...but man, that'd be one clean install!Ganreizu wrote:At this point you might as well sell pre-made GBZs with whatever cases they want...

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute
What are you going to do about the screw post bracket? Especially with the cable in the way... I figure I'll either: 1. Hotglue the posts and bracket right onto the display board, but that seems kind of messy and gross 2. Hope the that two screws in the battery compartment are enough to hold everyt...

No, the screen doesn't power on. I checked the contacts, everything is ok and at the screen between red end black wire there are 5V. Do you have anything non-conductive between the back of the screen and the control board? I assume that the screen backing is aluminum or steel and that's gonna short...

Re: Better sound, better speaker
Just hooked it up to an amp and man it sounds realllllyyyyy nice compared to the stock one. Much "fuller" sound (more bass usually has that effect). And it can get crazy loud, to the point the case is vibrating like crazy in your hands (much less so once it's full of components and weighted down a b...

Better sound, better speaker
So I know most folks are happy with the default GB speaker, or that one from Adafruit but how about a REAL speaker? I've had these ones for a while sitting in a drawer and decided to see if I could make it fit in the GBZ: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-ce-series-ce32a-4-1-1-4-mini-speake...

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute
It fits PERFECTLY... almost like it was made to fit inside a GameBoy. Check it out (this is without any modification other than removing the long screw posts):80sRetro wrote:Cannikin, how well does the screen fit? It does look like it is bigger.

Re: Collecting information on alternative displays - please contribute
But it says it's a VGA monitor. Will it also be able to do composite? I was told that in order for the screen to fit in the Gameboy with the Pi 0 it would have to be composite or HDMI. Let me know what you think, thanks! Yep, it has both VGA and composite inputs (it's the yellow plug that's kind of...

Re: USB Hub
I might give this similar one a try. I found it recommended on the rpi forums and i can see someone commenting on amazon confirming that it works. https://www.amazon.co.uk/niceeshop-Multi-fonction-Charge-Adapter-Connector-Black/dp/B00OK44HNI?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_det...
