What improvements did you make in the schematic? The one you made looks exactly like the one above. Maybe you forgot to edit it with the diodes? If I'm reading this right each button will get a diode so 12 in total instead of the 4 currently in the schematic.

Put the wires through the hole and scrape the traces coating off (red coating) near the holes and solder to the traces and wham bam done. Easy fix.

Has that been tested on Linux/RetroPi ? I know you told me in a PM that it worked fine in Windows but had some issues in Linux.

Also get some flux like in a Flux Pen and put it on the board traces then solder the traces, it will stick very easily.
