Re: GBZ35 & GBZ35-Dark RetroPie Themes for Small Screens

I just published some much-needed updates to the GBZ35 themes. You can update to the newest version using Retropie-Setup / ESThemes. I originally built the theme to support systems that a Pi Zero could emulate. However, since the theme sees use in more powerful Pi3 and PC-based systems, I'm hoping t...

Re: New Devices Kneecapping Gameboy Zeroes

How about the new switch lite that you can purchase retro games for? $199 looks good to me. If only Nintendo made more retro games available, I'd totally be on board with this (there a good chance I'll buy a Switch Lite still). Unfortunately, they just have a slow trickle of retro games (at a fairl...

New Devices Kneecapping Gameboy Zeroes

I was about to jump headfirst into my fourth GBZ build, and then the Analogue Pocket & RG350 both appeared. Now I'm not sure if I want to drop another ~$150 on my own shoddy craftsmanship. From what I've seen on YouTube, the RG350 handhelds appear to give near-Pi3-performance for under $90. My bigge...

Re: Display Similar to Analogue Pocket

how about that control board tho? looks like its bigger than the gearbest one. It took some searching, but it appears to be 64 x 65mm. So, bigger than the Gearbest, but not outlandish. Looks like the ribbon cable goes for miles, so you may be able to mount it on the back half of the DMG shell. http...

Re: Display Similar to Analogue Pocket

The $70 3.4" LCD appears to actually be similar in size to the Gearbest 3.5" people use today. If the specs I dug up are correct, the $70 AR LCD's entire screen panel is ~2.4mm narrower and ~3.64mm shorter than the Gearbest. You could probably get a lens for the 3.2" screens, and tweak the overscan ...

Display Similar to Analogue Pocket

With today's Analogue Pocket announcement , I was curious which bonkers display they were using for that 1600x1440 3.5" LCD. This might be it , but ends up costing $150 for the LCD & driver board. Then you have to figure out getting it hooked to a Pi. While it doesn't appear to be identical, this 3....

Re: Mushy buttons and input lag

The solution is quite simple : relfow the contact on your pcb with a solder iron (flux + "chiseled" tip) ; and brush reflows controls with isopropylic alcohol. Tagging onto this post to say that this is a legit solution. I was having to mash the ever-loving crap out of the B button & Start button o...

Re: Gameboy Zero Pi3a - 800x600 Hdmi Screen

That screen seems extremely impressive for the price; and seems to be relatively low-effort to get working. I might need to do a 3A+ build of my own with one of these. With some investigation, one would think it'd be possible to hack in some external brightness controls somehow. I've kind of spoiled...

Re: My New PCB Prototypes

All's well, and I'm back to enjoying my Gameboy Zero. Thanks for your help, Dividion. Ultimately, it seems that my no-sound/no-USB issue was probably related to a bad soldering job to the 5V pad on the back of the Pi (my fault). As a result, power was not making it to the USB-A plug or the sound chi...
