Check to see if there is continuity for GND from the Pi to the LCD board which has test pads right above the 8 pin connector. Same here, luckily I have taken an image of the final build in case anything did get corrupted. I would advise everyone to do the same.

i found i needed to smooth the sides between the bezel and it's back piece so that they fit flush together. it's only a little detail, but could make all the difference... Took it apart used thinner tape for the screen bezel and rounded the corners of the tin and put it all in a new tin. Fits well ...
