been searching google for a flex ribbon extension with connector, thinking it could help space my insides out better in gbz, but cant seem to locate one

it should autodect hdmi and disable the gbz screen when plugged in. if the gbz screen still displays, i dont think hdmi is connected all the way

strange, have you tried another hdmi port on the tv, or made sure the wires are pushed in enough?

@goose_box assuming you have wifi connected go into retropie in emulation station > retropie setup > manage packages > manage main packages > lr - pcsx - rearmed > update from binary

also make sure to have the bios file in the bios folder.
