You won't fry a multimeter by selecting the wrong range, just get a different reading. Literally any multimeter is fine, there's even some great looking digital, auto range meters on AliExpress and gearbest

You need to have a battery plugged into the board for the TP board to function properly. Add a battery and it will work ok
