Why and how are you using HTML for this? I just use some png's and the pngview command in a python script. I'm btw done with mine now, found a great solution for switching status without the icon gone missing in statusupdates

Attached is the voltage curve of my 2000mAh battery, as you can see its kind of unstable, so i had to drop the 10% steps in the battery icon and replace them with 25% steps

There are some links and info about some of this in the guide section. You can remove the terminal text and raspberry logo, and you can try to deactivate "wait for network in boot", to get a faster boottime
