Your wiring is ok! The wiring on the picture is very simelar: these guys just make use of the internal bridge inside thise switches from left to right. Try different zoom factor in you slicer. Or measure the difference and calculate the need factor. Possibly some try and error need.

No difference for gameplay at all! The only advantage you could win is a faster boot up time. But even this only if you use the right sd card and make a use of the sd overclocking function. Try yourself a way forward: power with 12V. Than measure on all big capacitors the voltage to ground. You should find at least one. This can later on be the point to inject your 5V supply to.
