In all fairness I think it has to be spi. As long as you don't go over 240x320 resolution you will be fine

Trimming the case down without ruining it was probably the trickiest part.

How do you find the quality of the refresh rate?
Are you running in 240i? Try changing to 240p. Interlaced is the default, but it flickers like crazy, hurts my eyes too. It gets much better when you switch to progressive scan.
