Fake NesPi

Post by scionsamurai » Tue Aug 08, 2017 7:00 pm

Hello Everyone,

Long time reader, first time show-off-er.
So i bought a fake $21 "Vintage retro console" preprogrammed with 500 games. So i ripped it apart and added a Raspberry pi. For fun. :)
Soon i'll add a screen to the top half and am looking for some kind of hinge solution to flip the top and bottom half open. (i was thinking about trying to get one 3d printed, but i dont have one and very little experience 3d modeling)

Thank you!
I got it off Ebay for about $22. You can find it by searching "Vintage retro 500 games"
I did keep the controller ports and the chip. I cut the traces on the chip though, and wired usb cords directly to the solderpoints on the back. And then i converted the controller cord to have a female usb end. Works mint :)
Still need a better hinge solution. Right now i cut up a dvd case and glued the bending part in there

Thanks for the details. If you have time to loose, i would definitely love to see more pictures from your build to see exactly how it is done

For sure. I'll take some pictures after work today. It's mostly built with extra parts from my gamePi 3 build. Thank you for looking :)

Right on! I hope to see how it goes! :)
I was thinking about adding a normally closed push button and having the internal screen wire go through it. So when it's not flipped open it doesn't try to start from that screen. There are a few other things that will need to be T'ed off on it too.
Also i'm not the best picture taker, so i wasn't sure what other angles to get on it.
For the wiring i followed A3k4's diagram. (I owe a thank you to many in this community though! Gracias ya'll!)
And i added a picture with my gameboy build so far. I need to buy a new audio amplifier board for it at the moment. And i might change the case again eventually.

Just for playing Digimon World 3/2003 you deserve a thumbs up hahaha. Very creative to be honest using the case with a Pi :)

For those interested in building a Fake NES Pi there's a guy on Youtube that used a NFC receiver with NFC tags inside physical cartridges that looks awesome. He plugs the games like in the original console and they load on Retropie! Worth to have a watch!
