parts list.....

1) Source a NDS (ideally a broken or faulty unit)... this can be sourced from a local seller (game store) or off eBay....
(you also could by a replacement housing and a motherboard...from somewhere like Aliexpress or even eBay)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/YuXi-Bl ... f297825a0d
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/US-Vers ... f88ed50bb6

2) 3.2" ili9341 SPI LCD
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-2-inc ... 4c4du0C3Oz

I also used these connectors to connect the screen to the RPi
(but you could wire the screen up, but you'll have more wires to deal with)
https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5614

3) 3.7v LiPo battery (the one I used was dependent on the amount of space i made inside the housing using a rotary tool)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3-7V-35 ... 80882f48ac
(before ordering a battery make sure you can actually fit it into the housing)

4) Power Module
I used the generic power module used in most GBZ build
(commonly known on this forum as the Banggood PSU)
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Mobile- ... 4c4dien7hn

but i would now recommend (and would use if building again)
Helder Retro PSU
https://sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=6421
it may seem like overkill, but its will actually provide other functions that would really suit the build in a very small form factor
(like a on-screen battery monitor, safe shutdown, ability to add a analog joystick and easy enabling of GPIO controls)

5) Sound
USB sound card
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Etmakit ... 3975afe80e

Amp
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1PCS-Mi ... 2eb0784232

Speakers
I used 2 mini VECO speakers (which can be found in laptops)
but the Original NDS speakers can be used....
or a set of Wii U speakers will also be a good option
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-1p ... 775218c24b

Volume wheel
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-10P ... 031ef8e5ba

Headphone Socket
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10PCS-L ... 4e45b3a6d8

6) This is an obvious one, but a Raspberry Pi
I used a Raspberry Pi Zero W
https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-pi-zero-w

but with the new RPi3 A+ just recently being release, I would also consider this (providing everything is trimmed off the board)
https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry ... del-a-plus

7) Extra parts that might also be required
Switch
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/20PCS-S ... 973bd42253

Charging Port
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10pcs-R ... 4c4dz4t0qO

Charge Cable
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB-Pow ... 4c4dz4t0qO

thanks....

surprising the hinge wasnt as bad/difficult as try to block the cartridge slots and make them look decent
(and inline with the contours of the housing/case)

(they've come out ok, but not as well as i thought id be able to get them... )

i'll have a complete build post up by the weekend....

Wow! That looks great. I was about to ask about the hinges as well but I see your pics above. Cool custom decals on the back as well.

Definitely interested in seeing the process when you post it.

How much room is left in the shell? Do you think a build like this would be possible with, say, a spare New 3DS XL case? Because more buttons (and analogue sticks!) ;)

i really dont see the point in trying to build something like this with a 3DS XL case....

even if you were able to fit everything in (which i think will be a stretch)

you only have two extra button (L2 & R2) and an analog stick which arent really needed for the vast majority of games you can run properly on a Pi Zero (theres no way you'll fit a Pi3 in a build like that)

but the biggest issue will be the screen, how to fill the opening of the 3DS XL screen...
a small screen in a big opening just looks janky to me (IMHO).....
