Ports set up

I just installed the latest retropie 4.0 and got roms, themes, and splash screen set up like before.

I'm having a problem now where ports won't show up. I dug into the file manager and saw there was no ports folder in /home/pi/retropie/roms/ so i created one and added the cavestory files into it like the wiki says. Ports still won't show up in the main emulationstation menu though.

Is there something more i need to do to make ports show up and cavestory playable? Do i need to connect to the internet and update packages/retropie set up script? If i need to connect to the internet can someone tell me how to use a usb ethernet dongle to connect to the internet?
