PAL or NTSC screen config

Post by jazzy » Thu Jul 28, 2016 7:47 am

Hi All,

To give some background, I've just got my composite 4:3, 3.5inch, 320 x 240 screen hooked up and trying to play with pi config settings, framebuffer, overscan, Ideally i want the crispest/squarest image without sacrificing too much of the image

I've seen a setting where i can set output to be PAL/NTSC

From what i remember modding consoles, NTSC was always prefered as it was faster(refresh), whereas PAL output more 'lines'. Am i right in thinking NTSC has less lines, but those lines were stretched vertically. PAL had more lines which takes longer to draw but are more square - (with borders)? Does this also apply to the pi setup - will you gain borders in PAL?

What are folks preferred output NTSC or PAL? Does this inital setup have a compound effect on when you change resolution in the emulator settings or do the emulator resolution settings override this PAL/NTSC behaiour

Apologies if this is a bit of a dizzy question, i'm essentially trying to get a smooth full image

Thanks
