Well there's the obvious - size. Pi Zero wins that hands down. The Pi 3 however has so much more power, later consoles should run *much* better. The other downsize is probably needing to strip the ports from the Pi 3 which is a pretty daunting task (For me at least). Pi 3 comes with Wifi/Bluetooth too which is a bonus, and no need for a usb hub as you could solder to the points on the board once you've removed the ports.

Heres a list of Pros & Cons for the Pi Zero and Pi 3
Pi Zero Pros
- Extremely Small
- Cheap
-Can be used as a USB Device/ Hacking Module
Pi Zero Cons
EXTREMELY Slow processing power
Requires external USB Hub
No Built In Wifi /Bluetooth
Pi 3 Pros
- Built In USB
-Built in Wifi/Bluetooth
-Fast Processing power compared to Pi Zero
Pi 3 Cons
-Bulkish compared to Pi Zero
-Expensive ($35)
Overall, I would have to say that the Pi 3 is better for retro gaming and processing. Though the Pi Zero is better if you want to use it as a USB device, a small weather station, a hacking module ect.

That sounds perfect for GBZ projects, do you have a source? I couldn't find anything on the web.

For its size and price, the zero packs a fair punch. The biggest draw to the zero for me is it's low power draw. My project has 2.2 inch screen, gpio buttons, and a 2500mah battery. It lasts about 10 hours on the battery.
If I were to do the exact same project with a pi3, the battery would last 1 hour!
I guess it all depends on the games you want, the battery life you want, and the size of the case you want to fill.
As for a pi A3, it technically would be the next logical step, although a lot of the model a users tend to like the lower power consumption of the current model a

sorry for unearthing such old topic but in the flavor of it:
i'm looking for a list of what consoles run on what Pi?
like for example (im only theorizing): PS1 won't run on zero but will run smoothly on pi3
or
gamecube will be choppy on zero but smooth on pi3

I am using zero for NES and SNES, it runs fine. Haven't tried PS1, but it is probably unplayable.
