Connecting TFT LED 3.5 to raspberry pi zero

Post by DOCTOR06 » Tue Jul 12, 2016 9:46 pm

So I'm new to hardware. So judge away please.
I have been following the gameboy raspberry pi zero tutorial and I got an alternative screen since the adafruit have been out of stock for a while.

I installed an os on an SD and hooked it up as the picture is showing.
I power it up and I was not able to see the screen turn on.
Do you guys see anything that I may be missing. Or another way to test it.

Thank you guys in advance.

Hi there,

please stop soldering the second Video Input to the Ground Pin!
Why is everyone doing this? Could you tell me where you found this wiring?

Your LCD has got 2 Video Inputs. Usually Yellow and White.
Black is Ground (GND) and Red is V+ (Power).

See here how to wire it correctly: Red: V+, Black: GND, Yellow/White: Video
Image
Only solder on EITHER the yellow OR the white wire, NOT BOTH!

You have to find out which Video Input your Display is using, 1 or 2.
If there is no Video Input (Display is not showing video or turning on) either change the video input via your buttons on the board or solder on the other coloured wire (yellow/white).

Also you should not tap into the power supply of the pi itself.
The Pi has got a 5v output pin, for those purpose, seen on the picture.
This is only for testing, in youor final build you will want to get your GND and V+ from the PowerBoost or your alternative.

EDIT: Updated the Picture with a better one.

I can only guess the reason why is because if you watch wermy's youtube video it shows him (to test the board) soldering the red and black to the usb in pads to share power and he solders the white and yellow in place like the first pic on this thread. I did the same and it worked but have revamped it since.

If your screen is fuzzy might be because it's not adapted for 5v so you need to modifie it!
