Could it be that the hub pulls the raspberry in otg mode and the 2 port switch doesn't?
Otg mode is enabled when the id pin is pulled to ground, this can be the cause of some devices working an others not.
Best is to find a micro usb connector with 5 pins out and simply connect the id pin to groun, this could be a solution.
Something like this one:

Yes, I've already tried this!
The hub works in the same way with and without otg mode.
It works with usb keys and also usb soundcard but not with keyboards and gamepads.
I can live with it for now,the soundcard is the most important thing and it works.

Then maybe, like veteran already mentioned, it could be a dud.
Most important is that you're ok with the fact (for now) that the sound is working.
