I wanted to do something different with my design so I went back to the 3D prints and made several changes.
Now that I have most of the pieces I need to build it I decided to do a log. Hope you enjoy it.

2017/11/16 - I'm still not sure if this new design will work but I'll start by showing the base 3D print.
The jack is a 2.5 switch jack PJ242, small enough not to take a lot of space but for regular headsets it will require an adaptor.

On the right side is the usual usb sound card, since the base includes a hole for the chip it should be possible to mount it without taking out the crystal. To be checked later.
The battery is also the usual due to the dimensions. On the picture you can also see both tactical switches and power switch.
Now viewing from the back, on the left you will have an usb port, in the middle the Adafruit's microLipo, and on the top of the microLipo the usb hub.

Missing on the picture is the ADS 1015, for the joystick and battery monitor, that I still have to figure where it will fit. Probably on the left empty space. If the pcb does not fit I will have to use only the chip (TI can provide it).

2017/11/16 Since my idea is to use a joystick I could not use Helder PCB. Also I needed the joystick to lower a lot so that he could fit with the screen and all. This is the reason for the square hole on the top left.
On the left you also have the tactical switches for start and select. On the right, for symmetry purposes you also have 2 tactical switches. At least one of those will be used as function button.

2017/11/16 For the face I added the 2 extra holes for the tactical switches on the right and I included the hole with supports around for the joystick on the top left.
I've tried to print the button name but with no success due to the precision of the printer. I will try again later.

2017/11/16 Forgot to include the link for a similar joystick to the one I'll be using.

I like the twist on the build, looking forward to a finished product.

this is a interesting concept.....
would also like to see it completed......
seeing as Helder PCB is not compatible, unless you try butchering it....
this might be a viable option (not sure) for the buttons....
so you'll have the analog stick, this for the buttons and some tactiles for the start/select/function

(not sure, so don't shoot me down if it isn't)

Should work if you get a connector breakout board to easily expose those thin traces on that ribbon.

2017/11/18 VeteranGamer sadly I did not find those during my search so my option was to use this conductive film keypad for PS4 controller, cut it and used VHB tape to put it in place. Not the exact size for the buttons but I already tested the buttons and they are working.

2017/11/18 Today I also prepared the tin with all the holes. I've included an hole for the HDMI access to the Pi. As explained in previous discussion I'm a fan of switching between the LCD and HDMI with the correct resolution, this way I will be able to use Kodi during trips, or my kid can watch some cartoons. Just wished wermy could include this functionality in the software. Later I'll try the new image an if necessary make the required changes. I already need to perform some changes in the battery monitor script so that it uses a different ADC port since I need 0 and 1 for the joystick.
