Really hard to say - honestly probably still a couple weeks out if I wait for a custom PCB solution to be ready (which I think makes sense). I promise I'm eager to get it out too! :)

No problem waiting. Gives me time to get a few screens I ordered from China!

2.4" might fit though, I'll have to look into it. :)
I'm wondering what the largest size screen that will fit in the top of the case would be too. I'm not afraid to chop the board behind it, but I love the 3D printed finish on the mintyPi 2.0. Unfortunately, manufacturers don't tend to list Altoids tin compatibility on their spec sheets ;)

Cool, gives us all enough time to get some parts ready. My 9-year old daughter saw your video and begged me to make one for her :)

BTW I notice you used the PAM8302 amplifier. The 8302A variant is very cheap on eBay (but ships from China). Did you connect a 3.5mm jack to it?

Also, will your final design incorporate a specific battery model/size/shape or will it be flexible for different battery types? I'm curious to know what battery and battery booster is recommended for this mod.

So, for those of you out there who, like myself, want to order the parts before the official guide comes out here is what I've been able to put together. Not trying to step on Wermy's toes or anything and I'm sure his list will be much better than this one but just to spark the conversation:

2.2" TFT display (Wermy said he's looking into if a 2.4" would fit but the one shown was 2.2")
Pi 0 W
Powerboost 1000 from Adafruit - (I've read some think the 500 was used but still not sure. I'm putting the 1000 because I believe it allows you to play and charge at the same time where the 500 does not. So here's hoping it fits.)
8 ohm speaker
2.5W audio Amp from Adafruit - (I'm actually personally debating about the speaker and amp in the build at all as it feels like a portable would be better suited to just have the headphone jack, which I've heard can be wired directly to the pi, but since I didn't see one in any of the videos or pictures I put the speaker info here)
1200mAh lithium battery from Adafruit - (this one I got as someone's opinion on another forum So I have no idea if a larger battery was used or what)
DS lite buttons (up,down,left,right,A,B,X,Y,start,select)
tactile switches for L,R buttons (probably the same 6mm ones used for the L,R buttons on the GBZ)
custom PCB (Wermy said he made the first one with copper tape but is looking into a better, probably more compact, solution)
Wire (22 and 24 gauge)
3d printed covers (Wermy has indicated his 3-d design will be available to those with home printers and he will also be selling them printed out to those who don't. Because he is an awesome guy like that.)
3.5mm audio jack (this is NOT SHOWN ANYWHERE and may not be possible but I hope to fit it so I'm adding it.)
On/Off switch (the smaller the better)
Altoids tin (or comparably sized tin)

I think that is everything.

Again, the point of this was to hopefully spark more conversation about specific parts for those of us who are probably too impatient to be on the cutting edge of these awesome ideas. hopefully no one is offended that I tried to do this (as my knowledge of this stuff is VERY limited). Just trying to consolidate the information I'm seeing before we get the infinitely better version from Wermy himself.

All ideas, opinions, criticisms, thoughts, puzzles, riddles, enigmas, and straight conversations about the above are welcome.

Thanks.

That's pretty close.

The reason I haven't put out a parts list yet is because I'm still trying a couple of options for a few things. The audio for example, I just got a couple of different USB sound cards that I've heard put out enough oomph to make a separate amplifier unnecessary (I'll be able to test it tonight or tomorrow). Also I've got a few smaller speaker options on the way that, if they sound good/loud enough, will let me rearrange a few things on the inside for the better. So I'd like to get these things nailed down before having people run out and buy a list of parts that could change (even if only a little).

For now, though, things that are pretty much nailed down:
• Pi 0 W
• Powerboost 500 (I'll do some more thorough testing but the whole thing came in under 500mA in some brief testing, meaning it should be able to charge and play at the same time. I'll test to make sure if that's a concern for folks)
• 1200mAh lipo battery from Adafruit
• DS Lite buttons/rubber pads
• And this is the screen I used: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252135075697?_t ... 2749.l2649

I got board dimensions for one of the 2.4" screens, and I really don't think it's going to be an option unless you forego the bezel.

Hope this helps for now.

I wasn't trying to force your hand or anything, I'm just so excited about this build!

No worries, I understand. I just didn't want people buying things that I didn't actually include in the final build/guide. :)

That is really interesting because I recently finished a build using an SNES controller and fitting a pi zero, powerboost 500, and 500mAh Lipo battery inside the controller and it definitely cannot play and charge at the same time. maybe it's because I'm using the HDMI for video and audio? Not sure.
