Alright, so I took the schematics for the 2.4" screen, made a quick mockup model of it, and printed it out:

You could probably get it to fit, but just barely and the screw holes wouldn't be symmetrical, and the screen would be off-center. :\

Helder and I are looking into the option of using the bare screen (which are still widely available and would easily fit in the center of the case), combined with a tiny custom PCB. That would let us use the 2.4" screen (so a nice bump in size) with a ribbon cable that would connect it to the button PCB we're making, which is connected to the Pi. So it should be very clean and easy. :) The only downside is that it will take a little longer to get all this ready. We have some screens on the way and have reached out to a supplier for a quote on buying some screens.

Was just about to ask about that. :) Could we just solder to the ribbon if you decide not to do the custom PCB? They do seem to be more readily available, and they're a lot cheaper than the screens with the shield PCB. I don't know about everyone else, but I'd rather have the bigger, cheaper screen if it's doable.

Which also makes me wonder, if we do go with just the bare screen, is there space to cram a 2.8" in? :D

you may even be able to use the stock screen/board... if you carefully round of the edges where the pin headers are, this will move the screen over a couple of mm.... maybe making it more central...

care only really needs to be takren around the vcc pin header as the other end is for the touch

just an idea, trying to avoid extra cost and hassle

as it seem that the 2.2 is a no option (99% certain)

you could try soldering to the ribbon if you like, but they is super tiny!!! 0.8mm pitch

I also noticed this board exists on banggood.com but is listed as 'Sold Out Currently!' (not sure how much to read into the 'currently' part haha):

https://www.banggood.com/2_2-Inch-Seria ... mds=search

Thought I'd share it just in case they get a re-stock.

How durable are these 2.2" screens? I have one in my Super Famicom build and it works great, but I was thinking about getting one to keep on hand as a spare, but at $13 that's not an insignificant amount to spend on something that will be there "just in case"

I can't imagine there is much to go wrong. I think the big failure point for screens is physical damage breaking the glass or connections (ribbons)

I have yet to break one even with my slapdash connections and soldering
