something i noiticed and caused me a lot of wasted time

so i got most of my parts including the board /screen and battery monitor.still waiting on the audio board and micro lipo. decided to go ahead and get the board soldered and screen fitted and all works fine. deleted the sd card and reinstalled the new image for battery monitor and went ahead and soldered on the battery monitor board. the next day i put it back together now the screen was flickering and not working. So i removed the 2 wires from the battery monitor to the pi so now im assuming the battery monitor is out of the equation but still no screen :? After readjusting the screen over and over and remaking the sd card image over and over i finally broke out the solder wick and removed the battery board and all works normal again! All i can think is the pi must be powered from a battery if you have that board attached or it wont boot properly. figured i would share this incase someone else is testing like this and runs into the same problem. :)

Not powering it by the battery with the safe shutdown board installed wouldn't cause the issue. My tester has the safe shutdown PCB installed and I power my tester by using the micro usb port on the Pi. It sounds like you have / had a bad connection somewhere.

More likely you had / have a poor connection as dryja123 says.

The battery monitor is soldered to the original PCB and covers the GND and 5V pads - removing it probably fixed the joint?

Did you also rework any of the screen GPIOs?

Probably the large ground pad on the battery monitor pcb. You have to apply quite a bit more heat to that pad to get a good solder connection. Everything will test good but move flex the assembly just a bit and you lose ground.

Ok . I will mess with it some more tonight . And yes I had a hell of a time getting solder to flow down to the ground . Finally turned the temp all the way up and got it . Maybe I will run a wire to the ground test pad itself to be sure it's grounded well.

Becareful cranking up the heat. I solder at 600f and if a surface needs more heat I leave my iron on it for another few seconds. Don't risk ruining your board because of impatience.

yeah i had my iron a bit low at 450 or so (The temp i use on rghs. lol) i turned up to 650. something i left out from the initial statement and is still an issue today. i noticed when i would install the v1 miniti pi image i would see the splash screen and games would load. but when using the v2 or v3 theres no minit pi splash screen and games wont load(same games) i just get a black screen. any ideas? ive now used two seperate quality sd cards to rule that out? i use win32diskimgr to write the image.

Just add your splashscreens in their folder, and select them, should be fine

so are you saying the mintipi splash screen has been removed from the v3 image? that doesn't explain the games not loading from that image though. The battery warning and oncscreen stuff is working.

i dont have the sound card yet. could this be why? (maybe some error msg that isnt on screen?) I have confirmed many times over that i get the splash screen when starting up and games will run with the v1 image. when i use the v2 ,or 3 image I get no splash screen and when i try to load any game the screen turns black.
