MintyPi pcb, yep another "where to buy" question!

Post by Wailer » Thu Apr 26, 2018 11:19 am

"where can i buy an mintypi pcb" seems to be a hot topic.
And i have to be honest, this question is on my mind quite often lately.
I know Helder is working on a v3, and it can take some time (months    ).
So the my question is, is there any chance v2 gets re-released?
Maybe in a diy form? For example the button pcb only, with directions how to use a alternative screen (maybe with a ffc adapter), iow leave some of the work for the buyer.
I don't want to pressure Helder, i know (at least i can gues) how much work he puts into this.
But for the ones (including me ;) ) who caught the mintypi virus, just after the last sale closed, the wait can be just too much.....

So no pressure, if the answer is "just wait"..."sigh" we (i) will....

Little edit, yes i could try to make my own board but Helder's stuff looks so cool

Keep an eye out in buy/sell. I believe Helder stated that he would sell extra boards if he had any.

I will certainly do that, it's almost becoming a daily routine :D

Unfortunately I don't have extras to sell, I know waiting is tough but it'll be worth it and won't be too far away. I might sell plain pcbs if people really need them.

👍 That's good news (the new version part), thanks.

Any spoilers?
At the moment i am ordering parts (from china so this can take some time ;) ).
I even sent my sister to New York to get me a suply of real Altoids tins .
I have got a load of Barkleys tins but i want to make the real deal... At least for my first MintyPi build...
Will v3 be using the same parts (electronics wise)?
And how about the 3d parts, can we use Wermy's most recent parts?
You see, a load of questions hopefully you can/will answer.

Keep up the good work.

The plain pcb's, would that be v2 or v3 and what skills/parts would you need to make a fully functional version?
(Pcb wise?)

Everything is new and will be super easy to assemble minus the Pi which will remain the same, there just isn't enough space to do a solderless setup which I have attempted.

You will only need a battery which is not the overpriced 1200mAh everyone is using. Current 3D parts will not be compatible either so new parts are coming.

The plain pcb will be for the v2.1 style and not be for the v3 style. If I do some plain pcbs they are all blank but will have options for the battery monitor chip and ribbon connector which you need to solder yourself. Those parts can be omitted and still have a functioning build.

I think providing a "blank" pcb is a great idea.
Having to do some work is (at least for myself) the main part of the fun of building.
And freedom of choice wich parts to use (or not) is a good thing.
