For the mintypi do I have to use the image Wermy linked or can I use any image that has games preloaded?

Wermy's image is configured and optimized for the mintyPi. If you use another image you'd have to configure it to work with the screen and may run into some other performance issues. Be careful with sourcing images with games pre-loaded, it's highly illegal.
