SNES is my favorite console to play, and some games that don't run well on the zero have GBA ports that work fine like Yoshi's Island. My favorite games are Yoshi's Island, a Link to the Past, and Chrono Trigger. Btw has anyone ever gotten KH Chain of Memories running? Whenever I start a new game it freezes during the opening cutscene and I'm pretty sure the ROM is fine.

GBA runs surprisingly well on the pi0 if setup right...
This is the stuff that interests me, I don't have a mintypi yet, but lots of time I see people say something along the lines of, "... if setup right... this/that runs well" How do you know how to set things up? Is this just something you learn over time? What game needs what settings tweaked is a learned skill? Or is this just another way to say, "If you over clock the pi".

Most of the games that are in the "serious" top 3 list play well in the standard configuration, so a standard retropie install or the version you can download for the mintypi.
My experience is that some games can be more troublesome and need tweaking, or in some cases are not playable at all.
Maybe it has something to do on what system you run your emulator, android, linux, windows, mac etc.
The roms are just rips of the original cartridge, so the emulator (and the system it runs on) is the one that can cause the problem.
So trial and error is the name of the game!

Btw some games have different rom rips (versions) so trying a different rip could do the trick...

So it sounds like to a degree it's a learned skill by playing around with different ROMs, emulators, and systems to see what works best. Thanks for the help on that.

That's about right, the best solution to play the games you really want is to keep your emulators up to date and sometimes try a different emulator.
Some game specific problems can only be resolved by a emulator update.
Some platforms (nes snes etc) have different emulators available, so switching emulators sometimes can do the trick.

A good source of information on is the retropie wiki, here you can find all info on wich emu's are available for a specific platform (some can have more then one), and if a bios is needed (the original software thats inside the console) to get things up and running.
Mind you that the whole emulator/rom scene is not legal, so for some things you have to do some digging.

Hardware tweaking could be a resolution, but is a little harder.

can you guys list your top 3 games to play on the mintypi
Don't actually have my mintyPi yet, but if I had one it would be.
1. Metroid 2 (SNES)
2. Metroid Fusion (GBA)
3. Metroid Zero Mission (GBA)

Can you guess which Nintendo franchise is my favorite? :-D
If I could add more though, since everyone knows Metroid, the next three that look fun would be.

1. Ninja 5-0 (GBA)
2. Astro Boy (GBA)
3. Shantae (GBC)
