Searching for a Screen/ Display

Post by Drizzel » Tue Mar 19, 2019 11:22 am

Hi,
I’m trying to build my own mintyPi without purchasing Helder’s parts for $90, and I’m not managing to find a reasonable screen. I’m not adding a speaker, so the screen could be up to 3.2 inches. Anything I find either has a GPIO connector at the back or works with a ribbon cable that’s too thick for the rPi. Do you have anywhere links to some reasonably thin screens that can be connected to a rPi?
Thanks a lot,
Drizzel

Take a look at the ili9341 that was used in previous iterations. You won’t be able to fit a 3.2 inch screen unless you never want to close the tin. The biggest I was able to fit was a 2.8 inch screen and that required modding the bezel of the screen in order to get it to fit in the tin.

you are not going to find a screen that can connect to the pi via a ribbon cable from the start. Like dryja mentioned look into the ILI9341 screens, i'll post a link below. Also, I suggest using a pcb like this to connect to the screens ribbon, then you can solder the wires to the pi:

Alternatively you can use a PCB like this, but you'll need to source connectors and a ribbon cable for it:

Screens:

2.4"

2.8"

3.2" (probably not gonna fit like mentioned. Not having a speaker will not help with fitting a screen)

Thanks a lot!
I definitely won’t use a speaker, I usually play without sound and rarely even use headphones. Are these displays worth anything? https://nextion.itead.cc/nextion-shop/
