MintyPi Lite headphone jack guide

Post by TehCookie » Fri May 29, 2020 7:49 pm

Hey guys, after reading the comments of the mintypi lite videos, I realized that everyone was enraged at the absence of the headphone jack.
Hopefully this guide will calm people down. The speaker will automatically turn off when something is plugged in.

Parts
x1 Headphone jack: https://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-Stereo-F ... uI8HOoFyVg Anything similar to that should work.
x1 470Ω resistor:https://www.ebay.com/itm/25x-25pcs-470- ... SwgzFZyCq5

Wiring

Yes, I did it in ms paint :/

SPK- Connects to one side of the speaker while the switches are connected to the other side.
When nothing is plugged in, the switches are connected to the left and right channel and allows the speaker to work. When headphones are plugged in, the connection gets interrupted and audio can only go to headphones.
Wiring with mono jacks is the same only difference is that there is only one channel to wire.
As for mounting, There's only enough space on the right side of the tin. You might have to remove bits of the 3D printed part for it to fit. I recommend starting with a small drill bit and file it to the correct size.

Hello,

Do you have a picture of how you soldered everything?, I'm new at this and I'm not so sure as how to read your diagram.

Thank you!

Sorry, I don't have a picture of the insides as I didn't plan to make a guide. An actual picture would be harder to follow anyways. If you have any questions about the diagram, feel free to ask.

Did you have to gut any of the 3d parts for it to fit or was there enough room without damaging anything?

Yes, you'll have to cut the base for it to fit.

I was able to get it! The diagram I edited ended up being the right answer. I just have to wait for the 3D parts I ordered from Wermy to get in to finish it. Thanks for posting this!

Hey, I want to do this, but I have four pin headphone jacks. I bought I think 20 of them a few months ago, and was wondering if I could use one of these instead of a five pin.

The only requirement is that it needs a switch that is normally closed so that the speaker will automatically turn off and on. If anyone else has questions, the discord server is where I'm most active
