White screen

Post by Holliday86 » Tue Jul 18, 2017 10:55 am

Hi, So I've soldered the pi to the minty pcb and checked for conduction between the pi and test pads and after a lot of trial and error, those are okay. I've trimmed and thickened the screen cable and I now get a white screen when I test the minty pi image. It's been white for a while now (thought it was just setting up) and it's not changed so I plugged it into a t.v. and right enough there everything is. The controllers on the pcb are working too so I'm at a loss on what to do now.

Can you post some pictures of your setup so we can see if there's anything obvious?

Terribly sorry to have bothered you wermy (my hero) but I went through all my connections again and noticed one was slightly bridged. Fixed it and I'm up and running.

Thanks so much for responding though .... I feel an idiot

Just a few questions, because I noticed this as well when I was testing my screen.

1) Is your SD card properly imaged? If so, did it ever boot? When I plugged power in to test my connections my screen was white for 3 seconds and it booted.

2) If it booted, did your screen remain white after you shut it down? I noticed when I shut down the Pi that after the Pi turned off the screen was still getting power.

I'm thinking that the power to the screen is passing through the Pi when using a power supply from the wall, despite the Pi being off. You won't notice this when you complete your build because the switch will either be on or off.

If you're not booting at all I would recommend testing each pad individually, both on the button PCB and on the test pads on the LCD board. Use a multimeter and make sure you have solid continuity.

Do you have a mini HDMI cable you can plug into it to check if it's actually booting up?

Also check the solder points to the test pads for continuity, if one is not connected it could be the issue. Show pictures of your soldering to the pcb and how your screen ribbon is inserted in the socket.

The screen is always on when the pi is turned off until you turn the power off using the switch.

Thank you Helder your the best ,just as you said i checked the ribbon cable and it didn't have enough masking tape.
