MintyPi Practice Solder Boards {Ruin These and NOT Your Real Boards}

Post by Helder » Sat Nov 04, 2017 6:13 pm

Hey sudomodders I've had this idea of making some test boards that pretty much replicate the button PCB GPIO pads and the Raspberry Pi Zero GPIO solder holes so you can practice on these before attempting the real thing. These have Test pads too so you can test your soldering with a continuity meter.

These are on OSHPark with the combo of boards costing about $16 for 3 of each, if you want to use a different pcb fabricator just use the Download link on the OSHPark links to get the Gerber files and upload to your preferred PCB House.

Oh man this is awesome! I bought 3 of each. This is exactly what I needed! I was really worried about doing this step because I'm new to this whole experience. This will give me a lot more confidence to move forward. Thanks a lot Helder!

As I'm still getting familiar with soldering this might be a perfect step before my first real build!
As soon as I get the cash together I'll have get one! Excellent idea!

oooh just a thought... to make it more like a real Pi, you should probably put in the description to have them made at 0.8mm thickness rather than the default 1.6mm

actually the zero is thicker, or at least it looks thicker compared to an 0.8mm board

Wrap it all round a battery https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2292
Or use a custom PCB to make it really small https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2512
or make it really really really really tiny!! https://www.sudomod.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2919
