Fixing speaker pads

Post by GoldenPSP » Sun Mar 24, 2019 1:14 pm

Hey all,

I have been getting my minty pi v3 all setup. I got the pi all soldered together and tested for connectivity. I was temporarily attaching the speaker to test boot up. I attached the speaker, then flipped over to attach the screen. When I flipped it back over one of the actual speaker pads popped clean off with the wire.

At this point I cannot see where or how to work around this, or fix the issue. Any pointers would be helpful.

Thanks!

scrape away some of the solder mask on the traces, add some flux and solder the wire to that. same thing happened to me

Are you talking about the lines I marked in red?

Yes, that would be the trace he is talking about.

Thanks! I like the idea of using that hole more than scraping away anything.

yeah, you can usually get away with soldering to the holes, there is often some exposed copper already. Once you have it soldered there and confirmed to work, I would add a tiny dab of hot glue too, just to help hold the wire in place. There is way less surface area to solder to compared to the actual pads, and the glue will just help keep the wire in place.
