V3 ES Menu Freeze/Crash

Post by thewick » Wed Apr 22, 2020 12:20 pm

I'm experiencing a variety of flavors of freeze/crash issues on my MintyPi V3 build. The following is occurring frequently while in ES interface and does not occur when not in ES:
1.) ES crash to command prompt - "bus error" message
2.) (most common) screen freeze in ES menu (becomes completely non-responsive, requires reboot to recover)
3.) Kernel panic crash

I've researched these issues on the forums and elsewhere on the internet and have seen several posts with similar issues (particularly with zero Ws), but not seeing much on solutions. I've double checked the VRAM=80 and confix.txt settings are set per the MintyPi build (no overclock). I did at one point blast all my roms and seemed to be working ok with small number of roms added back, but when i proceeded with adding back favorites across 4-5 systems the issue seems to have re-emerged. Maybe something with RAM loading up ES gamelists/configs? Has anyone else seen this behavior with the MintyPi builds?

Thanks,

Brian

Update: I finally gave up after reaching the conclusion my treatment was worse than the disease (apt-get update/upgrade broke the sound). I went ahead and swapped in a new SD card with fresh mintyPi image and seems to be stable now. Huge relief as I feared it might have been related to HW issue on the pi zero.

I think there is going to be an updated image coming out soon for the v3, but no ETA just yet which will have the latest retropie version.
