File editor

So im new to raspberry pi stuff. This is going to be my first build, and i need a little help. Seeming as im new I dont have a proper file text editor for my computer. I go on boot: wpa file for the Wi-Fi, and when I click it all i get is a prompt to download some software from the store. Which software would be best? Im sorry if my question seems jumbled
